A River in Africa

Affronter – to face

There’s a term, terror management, which I’m quite fond of. It’s a little absurd - terror by it’s nature is not something that can be managed. It would be like making a shark a pet. It’s a term used when people kind of ignore something that they know, just to make life a little easier. Some people think denial is always bad, but I don’t think that’s true. If you  are choosing to ignore something truly obvious,  there’s probably a good, protective reason for it. (A wonderful book on this theme is The White Darkness by Geraldine McCaughrean). For myself, denial is sometimes necessary to limit these moments.
